AGES 7-10, BALLET GRADES 1-3
This class is an introduction to Modern Dance Technique and Creative Movement Improvisation. Students will learn the techniques of working in parallel position, the C curve spine, floorwork, and both adagio and locomotor combinations while exploring musical phrasing. In the Creative Movement component of this class, students will learn how to lead and follow, find their unique, personal "dance" expression, and explore dynamics of time, space, shape, and energy.
AGES 10-13, ballet grades 4-5
This class is an Intermediate level approach to Modern Dance Technique and Creative Movement Improvisation building on skills established in Modern 1. Students will continue to build more advanced skills of parallel positioning, the C-curve spine, floorwork, musicality, and both adagio and locomotor combinations in duple and triple meters. In the improvisatory component, students will continue to build on lead-and-follow structure, finding their unique, personal expression via improvisational games that explore dynamics of time, space, shape, and energy. All of these elements will be used to introduce basic choreography skills.
AGE 13+, BALLET GRADES INTERMEDIATE FOUNDATION AND HIGHER
Learn Cat's unique contemporary movement style fusing fluidity and strength with a variety of disciplines such as Graham, Humphrey, and Bartenieff modern techniques, post-modern Release technique, Capoeira, West African dance, Jazz dance, and different types of street and break dancing (popping, locking, stalls, vogueing). The last thirty minutes of class focus on advanced-level structured improvisation and partnering aimed at developing each dancer's unique movement vocabulary and aesthetic.
